I recently read these words to live by, by Nora Roberts...
Three simple rules in life:
1. If you don't go after what you want, you'll never have it.
2. If you don't ask, the answer will always be no.
3. If you don't step forward, you'll always be in the same place.
These three simple rules really resonated with me. It caused me to pause. It made me reflect on the very beginning of
Pants for Peanuts — when it was just a thought, an idea in my head. At the time I called it "Project Pants for Peanuts".
In 2016, I joined
The MAGIC Foundation, a wonderful nonprofit that serves as guidance for parents of children with rare growth disorders. Time and time again I would see parents asking where to buy pants for their kids. I was struggling with this myself. So I decided to do something.
In order to start, I knew I needed measurements. I reached out to their Facebook group for parents to send me their child's measurements. Something unexpected happened...
A mom in the group offered to help develop my patterns. Her name is
Anna Bjornsdotter. Anna has a background in fashion and pattern making. She used to sew costumes for various opera venues and now she has her own clothing line,
Ethyria — how cool is that?! She helped develop my first samples for my daughter and introduced me to our seamstress who sewed our first production of slim-fit denim jeans. I am forever grateful to Anna for believing in the cause. Her son has a rare growth disorder,
Russell-Silver Syndrome. She is aware of the need for our pants and volunteered her time and expertise to make this happen.
It just goes to show that if you listen to that inner voice in your head, the stars will align.
If you don't ask, the answer will always be no.
I wanted to write this to give credit where credit is due. Thank you, Anna. Your generosity has touched the lives of many and will continue to as we grow. On behalf of the Pants for Peanuts community, thank you! 💚 💙
💚 💙Natalie
